Logo Design Process for New Brands

Image
The logo design process includes three main phases: Discovery Phase: Learning about the client's product or brand. It's important to also know the target audience.  The more you understand about the brand, the easier it is to visualize a logo concept. Conceptualization Phase: This is the fun part, in this phase you put "pen to paper". I like to rough in 3 different concepts for the client to choose from. Here are the applications used: Google Chrome (industry research) Sketch pad (a.k.a. pencil and paper) Adobe Illustrator (vector based illustration) Gmail (email communication) Google Fonts (downloadable typeface) Adobe Fireworks (drop-shadows, bezels) Refining Phase: After determining which style the customer prefers, it's time to finalize the logo. This includes experimenting with color combinations, and minor position tweaks, letter kerning, etc. Cost: Typical small business logo design cost is $200-$400, this is ballpark estimate

Top 10 Design Tips for Banners Ads

Image
More Clickable Ad Banners It's been a while since I designed online ad banners.  Back in the mid-2000s, I did a lot of them for AOL's YP ad campaigns.  The small size constraints certainly can present a challenge.  Here are some things I have learned over the past decade or so. MY TOP 10 AD BANNER DESIGN TIPS: Use standard size ads ( https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/6002621?hl=en ) Make text as large as possible for legibility Adhere to existing branding specs Use glows and shadows to help text "pop" Use visually interesting photos Compress files as much as possible Test color blindness rendering ( http://color-blindness.com/coblis-color-blindness-simulator ) Incorporate ad size into naming conventions (i.e., WW-Puget-336x280) Get approval on one ad size before creating additional sizes A/B test design variations as well as call-to-action text Here are some example of our recent ad banner designs... Forthcoming Alliance with Timely Sites

Image
Dear clients: I am pleased to announce a forthcoming alliance with Timely Sites . It is scheduled to take place officially on Sept 1, 2014. On that date our combined agency will begin conducting business as Timely Sites. Our company began offering web design services in 2001. Its success over the past 13 years has stemmed from the referrals of our clients. As a result of those efforts, we have experienced steady growth. We believe that our new larger organization will allow us to provide a wider array of services and top-notch support. There are several things we want to point out that will not change: You will continue to work directly with me. Our fee structure will not change. The services we have provided you in the past will continue to be offered by the combined firm. I will continue to operate from my current office. All the contact information will remain the same. Timely Trade Show Booth Design

Image
Custom Design of 20 Foot Trade Show Display Here's a display we designed with a brief summary of our graphic design process: Discuss specs and requirements Mock-up with proper scale and dimensions CorelDraw X6 64-bit Create new iconized version of company logo Adhere to company's color palette Integrate background elements Rough in text elements Generate PNG for client review Iterate, tweak and finalize Output for print  Exported in sections (do to enormous size of files) Reassembled in Adobe Photoshop CC Save as 8-bit CMYK TIF @ 150 dpi Upload to printer via FTP The biggest challenge was not in the design, but in the output of the large TIF file. The final output was 44K (yes thousand) pixels wide. I solved this by exporting the graphics in smaller sections, and reassembling in a layered Photoshop file.
